Retail Czar Radhakishan Damani’s Foundation to Build 400-Bed Hospital in Mumbai Suburb

The hospital will be built in Magathane area of Borivali East at the cost of around INR 6000 Cr. on a part of the 8.8-acre plot Damani bought last year.


A new 400 bed multi speciality hospital is set to come up in Mumbai’s Western Suburb of Borivali. The hospital will be constructed by the foundation run by D Mart promoter Radhakishan Damani, Abhay Chandak, trustee of the foundation announced on Monday.

The project is expected to cost around INR 6000 Cr.

According to Chandak, the hospital will be built in the Magathane area of Borivali East on a part of the 8.8-acre plot Damani owns.

Last year, the D Mart promoter purchased the plot from CCI Projects for a whopping INR 500 Cr. The foundation has kept the timeline of four years for the completion of the project.

The announcement was made in the presence of BJP North Mumbai Lok Sabha candidate Piyush Goyal and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Speaking at the event, Goyal, however, requested the management to increase the capacity of beds to 1000 instead of 400 and to open the doors to the public in the next two years by 2026.

Mumbai Hospitals on Expansion Spree

With Pandemic shadow far behind, several hospitals in the city have geared up for capacity expansion.

For instance, Parel-based cancer care hospital Tata Memorial Hospital is constructing a 17-storey facility with over 500 beds in the adjoining Haffkine compound at the cost of INR 880 Cr.

Similarly, Nanavati Max hospital is adding 600 more beds taking the total number of beds to 950. Once completed, this will make Nanavati Max one of the largest healthcare facilities in Western India by a private player.

Fortis hospital is also planning to build 200-bed hospitals in Kalyan-Dombivli and Malad-Borivali area and for 100-150 beds in Navi Mumbai.
