After 22 years, Dr Sujit Chatterjee has stepped down as CEO of Mumbai-based Hiranandani Hospital, he announced in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday.

Chatterjee was appointed as the CEO of the hospital at the time of its inception in October 2002.

Announcing his next plans, he said that he will return to project management and take over as CEO of Sea View Healthcare Management Services.

“I am pleased to state that I have stepped down as CEO of Hiranandani Hospital after 22 years of distinguished service. I was given a very fond farewell… I embark on another journey now as CEO of Sea View Healthcare Management Services Pvt Ltd. We are doing 3 hospitals between Mumbai and Thane. Will keep updating. I am back to project management. I am very passionate about this as it is creating something new,” Dr Chatterjee said in his LI post.

A veteran of the armed forces and alumnus of AFMC Pune, Dr Chatterjee led the design, management, and development of the facility and the service mix for over two decades at Hiranandani Hospital.

Under his leadership, the hospital achieved several firsts. It was the first in Mumbai and the Western region of India to receive ISO certification.

It was also the first in Mumbai and the Western region of India to receive NABH accreditation, which is a mark of quality and excellence in healthcare delivery.

He led the growth of the hospital from initial 130 beds to now a 244-bedded facility, providing comprehensive healthcare services to patients.

He also was a catalyst in a successful public-private partnership between the Hiranandani Group and Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

A medical doctor by qualification, Dr Chatterjee has previously served as a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Mumbai University.

The real estate tycoon, Hiranandani Group diversified into the healthcare segment with Hiranandani Hospital in 2002. Apart from its facility in Powai’s Hiranandani complex, it also built hospitals in Navi Mumbai and Thane.

However, last year it sold its newly constructed hospital property in Thane to Telangana-based hospital chain Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) for INR 275 Cr. The 3 Lakh sq ft hospital in Thane's Hiranandani Estate has been ready with an occupation certificate for over a year and is almost as big as the developer's 250-bed hospital in Powai's Hiranandani complex.
