This accolade is among the highest standards for stroke care, recognizing the hospital's comprehensive and high-quality treatment for stroke patients around the clock.

Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, Mumbai, has secured the Advanced Stroke Centre accreditation from the Quality and Accreditation Institute (QAI), the hospital shared this in a press statement.

Through this accreditation, the hospital became the first in Maharashtra to achieve this distinction.

Further, per the hospital, the accolade is among the highest standards for stroke care, recognizing the hospital's comprehensive and high-quality treatment for stroke patients around the clock.

Sharing thoughts, Dr Pavan Pai, consultant interventional neurologist, said, “The hospital has established a well-equipped and manned Advanced Stroke Centre and formed a Stroke Support Group wherein stroke survivors come together and share their experiences on a common platform and motivate other stroke patients to work on rehabilitation as it can lead to permanent disabilities.”

The QAI Accreditation

The accreditation process involved a thorough evaluation of various aspects of stroke patient care, including timelines for initiating IV thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy. Patient satisfaction and community outreach efforts were also assessed.

“We cater to a wide population right from Boisar and Dahanu Road in the north to Kandivali in the south. We also do community stroke awareness programs such as the stroke marathon,” stated Dr Pankaj Dhamija, center head, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road.

Dr Dhamija further noted that the hospital has a special Code White for Stroke Emergency handling and a state-of-the-art center including a cath lab, ICU, CT & MRI facilities, a thrombolysis facility, a 24x7x365 availability of a full-time interventional neurologist, and dedicated Stroke Nurse.

Alarming Stroke Cases in India

Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the sixth leading cause of disability in India. It is a medical emergency that occurs when there is a sudden interruption of blood flow to a part of the brain.

This interruption can be caused by either a blockage in the blood vessels (ischemic stroke) or the rupture of blood vessels (hemorrhagic stroke).

In March, Aster MIMS Hospital in Kozhikode collaborated with Qure.ai, a prominent provider of AI solutions for medical imaging.

Qure.ai's deployment at Aster MIMS Hospital includes the implementation of the qER suite of solutions, an AI-enabled head CT solution integrated with the Qure App care platform.

Days back, Australian researchers developed a new smartphone application that uses AI to analyze facial symmetry and muscle movements, detecting strokes with an accuracy rate of 82%.

The research team, led by Guilherme Camargo de Oliveira from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia, highlighted the significance of facial muscle asymmetry in stroke detection.
