IT giant Wipro has clinched a significant contract with Independent Health, Western New York’s sole 5-star rated Medicare Advantage Plan, to roll out Wipro’s Medicare Prescription Payment Plan platform (MPPP360).
Set to kick off in 2025, this initiative aims to transform prescription drug payments, offering capped monthly payments and other enhancements to Medicare recipients.
The implementation of the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (MPPP360) is aimed at providing affordable and accessible prescription drugs in Western New York.
Sharing thoughts, Narayan Iyer, VP, healthcare, Wipro, said, “This project exemplifies our dedication to transforming the Medicare landscape through innovative technology solutions. Together with Independent Health, we are committed to enhancing efficiency and convenience for beneficiaries, thereby elevating their healthcare journey.”
With the (MPPP360) platform, Independent Health aims to streamline the payment process, ensuring seamless integration of new provisions and simplifying prescription cost management for Medicare beneficiaries, the company said in an exchange filing.
Per the plan, enrollees can make capped monthly payments for out-of-pocket prescription drugs, amongst other changes.
The new law aims to improve access to affordable treatments and strengthen Medicare.
Commenting on the development, Dawn Odrzywolski, VP, Medicare Programs said that Independent Health aims to bolster overall health and well-being among its members.
“Independent Health prides itself on being a leading, highly rated Medicare Advantage plan. With the forthcoming changes to Medicare Part D, and the pharmaceutical industry’s continued escalation of prescription drug pricing, we want to make sure our members can afford their medications. It is important that our members have access to their medications,” he added.
According to him, this prescription drug payment program complements their efforts to provide our members with innovative solutions to meet their varying healthcare needs, which in turn supports our efforts in achieving our industry-leading 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for three consecutive years.
The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan is a provision of the Inflation Reduction Act that will allow Medicare Advantage Part D enrollees to pay for prescription drugs in monthly installments instead of at the time of purchase.
The law has been formed through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Part D enrollees can voluntarily opt into the program prior to or at any time during the plan year.
Once opted into the program, the member will pay $0 at the point of sale. The Part D plan will send a monthly bill to the member. This amount cannot exceed a monthly cap established by CMS.
