Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath encourages SGPGI to adopt AI-driven solutions to enhance healthcare services, emphasizing the need to set new standards in patient care and medical innovation.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has recently urged doctors at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) to improve patient care by leveraging advanced technologies like AI.
Speaking at the institute’s 41st foundation day celebration, he emphasized the need to increase outpatient and surgical services while enhancing overall healthcare delivery.
“The high standards of healthcare and medical education established by SGPGI are a source of pride. It has set benchmarks in the use of medical robots and technologies like AI. But there is a need to raise the bar in terms of patient care. Efforts must be made to accommodate more patients in the OPD and undertake more surgeries,” said Adityanath.
In 2024, SGPGI recorded 1.16 lakh outpatient visits, treated 48,600 patients, and conducted over 14,000 surgeries. The institute successfully performed 114 kidney transplants, 32 bone marrow transplants, one liver transplant, 591 open-heart surgeries, and 319 robotic surgeries.
Adityanath praised SGPGI for becoming the first medical institute to attract a CSR fund of INR 500 Cr. He noted that these funds support initiatives such as the Saloni Heart Foundation, which provides life-saving pediatric cardiac surgeries, and the construction of a shelter home for patients’ families.
“The pace of growth at SGPGI is remarkable, but the next five years will be crucial as many new projects enter the delivery phase. Working in mission mode is the key,” the UP Chief Minister added.
Adityanath highlighted SGPGI’s pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the introduction of Tele-ICU facilities, which addressed the lack of ICU beds in 36 districts at the time.
He stated that six medical colleges have already been connected to the Tele-ICU system, and efforts are underway to link all state medical colleges.
“From 36 districts without ICU beds during the pandemic, Uttar Pradesh now has 65 medical colleges. Our focus is on extending free quality healthcare to the needy under Ayushman Bharat and its state counterpart,” he said.
Adityanath urged doctors to make greater efforts to meet patient care demands. “Every patient seeks quality care, and to meet this demand, doctors need to triple their efforts. The government will ensure all necessary resources are provided,” he said.
Other dignitaries present included Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Health Minister Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, and SGPGI Director Dr RK Dhiman.
