This move aims to expand senior-focused primary care services by repurposing spaces previously occupied by Walmart's own clinics.

US-based Humana's CenterWell has planned to open 23 new clinics in Walmart’s four locations across states. This move aims to expand senior-focused primary care services by repurposing spaces previously occupied by Walmart's own clinics.

The new CenterWell clinics will be located in Florida, Georgia, Missouri, and Texas, and full operations are expected by the first half of 2025. The clinics will operate under the CenterWell and Conviva brands, emphasizing senior care.

Commenting on the same, Dr Sanjay Shetty, president of CenterWell, said, "We are excited by the unique opportunity to lease space from a world-class community partner such as Walmart and offer seniors in these four states greater access to our integrated approach to care."

The clinics are planned for major metropolitan areas, including Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville in Florida; Atlanta in Georgia; Dallas-Fort Worth in Texas; and Kansas City in Missouri. The financial terms of the lease agreements were not disclosed.

About Walmart's Health Clinics

Walmart opened its health clinics in 2019, establishing 51 locations in five states. These centers offered primary care, dental care, behavioral health, and key lab services, co-located with Walmart stores.

However, in April, Walmart closed its health and virtual care businesses, deeming them unsustainable. The company had initially aimed to open 75 locations by early 2025.

Highlighting the advantages that such an initiative can offer, Brian Setzer, EVP, Walmart Health & Wellness, said, "We look forward to welcoming CenterWell into these purpose-built healthcare spaces to offer quality care to communities in four states. Leasing these spaces to a well-known and successful healthcare delivery organization is a win for customers and patients as we continue to focus on our core health and wellness business of pharmacy and optical."

Humana's Expansion Strategy

As of March 31, CenterWell operated 300 care centers in 15 states, providing care for approximately 318,000 seniors. The partnership with Walmart is part of Humana's broader strategy to enhance healthcare accessibility for seniors nationwide.

This expansion reflects a growing trend in healthcare to integrate services within retail environments, making care more accessible and convenient for patients.

Humana's CenterWell, known as the fastest-growing senior-focused primary care provider in the nation, aims to leverage Walmart's established presence to reach more patients effectively.

In recent updates, Humana invested an undisclosed amount in Healthpilot, a US-based AI-enabled platform designed to simplify the search and enrolment process for Medicare plans. The financial terms of the investment were not disclosed. This strategic move aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in member experiences.

Healthpilot will continue to operate as a payer-agnostic platform, providing consumer-specific guidance to help potential enrollees find plans tailored to their needs. The startup aims to offer personalized and streamlined digital enrollment experiences.
