UPS has launched a specialized healthcare-focused cross-docking facility in Hyderabad to support India’s pharmaceutical industry.
The facility offers advanced temperature control capabilities, ensuring temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products' safe transport and storage.
The facility’s capabilities are designed to cater to the specific needs of India’s growing pharmaceutical sector, offering solutions for storing and transporting products that require strict temperature regulation.
The Hyderabad facility provides three distinct temperature zones to accommodate various pharmaceutical products. It can hold 15 pallets in the +15°C to +25°C range, seven pallets in the +2°C to +8°C range, and 50 pallets under uncontrolled ambient conditions.
This arrangement helps pharmaceutical companies distribute their products more efficiently, reducing the need for extended warehouse storage and ensuring timely delivery to critical markets.
A UPS spokesperson said, "This facility was developed to ensure that sensitive pharma shipments are stored and transported within the correct temperature range, preserving product efficacy and safety."
UPS's new facility safeguards critical shipments, ensuring that pharmaceutical products remain protected even during delays or contingencies.
The company underscored that the facility is vital in securing vital shipments, allowing them to be held or sorted before distribution. This setup helps mitigate risks associated with long storage times and supports the efficient management of the supply chain.
The facility is part of UPS Healthcare's broader global infrastructure, which spans 216 healthcare-dedicated facilities worldwide.
With over 17 million square feet of storage space, including 10 million dedicated to cold chain logistics, UPS is well-positioned to support the global distribution of healthcare products, including those from India’s growing pharmaceutical sector.
UPS has ensured that the Hyderabad facility adheres to Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards, which govern the distribution of medicinal products and help maintain the quality and safety of pharmaceuticals throughout the supply chain. This compliance also enhances the ability to trace and recall products if necessary, ensuring regulatory standards are upheld.
"Our strict adherence to GDP standards guarantees that products reach patients in the safest and most effective conditions," UPS Healthcare said.
The facility’s adherence to GDP standards is crucial for maintaining product quality and ensuring patient safety, adding security to UPS's pharmaceutical distribution network.
