A young talent of UP has created AI-enabled VisionPro glasses for visually impaired individuals.

The VisionPro glasses, created by Muneer Khan, founder of Cadre Technologies Services Limited, integrate artificial intelligence to provide real-time object detection, facial recognition, and text-to-speech capabilities.

Designed to aid the visually impaired, the glasses can identify obstacles, distinguish medicines from food items, and read printed text using an embedded speaker or bone conduction technology.

“This invention aims to be a beacon of hope for millions of people to regain light,” said Khan, who has applied for a patent in India for the device.

Supported by Columbia University, the glasses incorporate cutting-edge technologies, including Nvidia Jetson processors and LiDAR, to interpret and navigate the environment effectively.

Khan’s innovation aligns with his broader mission to leverage technology for social impact.

Khan, who hails from Gauriya village in Lakhimpur Kheri, has overcome significant challenges, including losing his father at the age of one.

Raised by his mother and supported by his brothers, he pursued education at the Birla Institute of Applied Sciences in Uttarakhand before completing a master’s degree in electrical engineering at Columbia University.

During his studies, Khan interned in France, working on assistive technologies, and later contributed to IoT-based gas sensing projects at Columbia. His passion for accessibility drove him to focus on practical solutions for the visually impaired.

Earlier this year, Khan was awarded the Young Scientist Award for developing a soil-monitoring device that assists farmers with real-time analysis to optimize crop yields.

The Vision Pro is set to be unveiled at IIT Bombay TechFest.
