The company previously imported these devices from its facilities in the USA and China and assembled them into Class 1 Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) at its Pune facility.

Thermo Fisher Scientific, a prominent US-based scientific equipment manufacturer, announced the local production of its Air Quality Monitoring System (AQMS) analyzers in India.

These AQMS analyzers will now be engineered, manufactured, and validated at Thermo Fisher's Nasik facility in Maharashtra.

The company previously imported these devices from its facilities in the USA and China and assembled them into Class 1 Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) at its Pune facility.

Srinath Venkatesh, MD, Thermo Fisher Scientific, India and South Asia, said, “Air pollution remains a major challenge in India, impacting the health and well-being of millions. By investing in localized capabilities, we strive to strengthen our partnership with government and regulatory stakeholders for action-oriented measures for a healthier, cleaner, safer India.”

About Indigenous AQMS

Thermo Fisher reinforces its focus on India’s localization and environmental stewardship efforts by commencing local manufacturing.

The AQMS analyzers provide precise data on air pollutants and gases, thus significantly monitoring and controlling industrial emissions. This move aligns with the government’s initiatives to combat air pollution.

Commenting on the same, Dr Nihar Sahoo, chief environmental engineer of the State Pollution Control Board and head, National Clean Air Program in Odisha, said, “The National Clean Air Programme aims at reducing air pollution by 20-40% with a focus on the reduction of pollutants PM10 and PM2.5. To ensure that we achieve these ambitious targets, there is a need for high-quality equipment that provides accurate and consistent baseline data on particulate and gas pollutants.”

The new initiative aims to support the nation's efforts in monitoring and regulating industrial emissions.

Thermo Fisher’s Recent Healthcare Developments

In a related development, Thermo Fisher Scientific partnered with US-based Bio-Techne Corporation, a leader in the life sciences industry.

Thermo Fisher's European arm, the Fisher Scientific Channel, distributes Bio-Techne's extensive range of products, including antibodies, proteins, immunoassay kits, reagents, and enzymes, to research institutions and laboratories across Europe.

This collaboration aims to democratize access to advanced healthcare solutions, thereby enhancing the capabilities of research institutions and laboratories.

Recently, the Atal Incubation Centre – Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (AIC-CCMB) in Hyderabad allied with Thermo Fisher Scientific to equip AIC-CCMB’s cutting-edge facility, the Centre for Innovation, with state-of-the-art technology to support the growth and development of startups in the field.

Per the agreement, Thermo Fisher Scientific provides advanced technological infrastructure to empower scientists and entrepreneurs associated with AIC-CCMB’s Centre for Innovation.

In January, Thermo Fisher Scientific appointed Srinath Venkatesh as MD of India and South Asia. In a statement, Venkatesh highlighted his goal of advancing the company's growth and operations in India while enhancing customer value creation.

Since 1996, Thermo Fisher has established operations in India. The company has strengthened its presence with eight manufacturing facilities, five application labs, two R&D centers, and eight distribution centers.

This was supported by an extensive network of 400-plus channel partners and approximately 4,700 employees (including PPD) strategically located in 42 cities and offices across 17 locations.
