This initiative will help Telangana to upgrade public hospitals with AI and improve specialty care services across the state.
The Telangana government is preparing a new healthcare policy to upgrade public hospitals across the state.
The initiative focuses on making government healthcare facilities more accessible, service-oriented, and clinically efficient, emphasizing AI integration and specialized care services.
The government is introducing measures to improve patient experience and healthcare delivery in state-run hospitals, citing the widespread lack of public trust in the existing system.
To address these concerns, the state plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline hospital services and enhance operational efficiency. The policy also includes expansion in trauma care, cancer treatment, palliative care, and geriatric services.
A key feature of the plan is controlling and managing chronic diseases by establishing non-communicable diseases (NCD) clinics in every district. These clinics are expected to improve early diagnosis and consistently monitor long-term health conditions.
Additionally, the Telangana government has proposed an INR 4,150 crore loan from the World Bank to fund this large-scale transformation. The funds will be directed toward upgrading infrastructure, deploying AI tools, and introducing specialized health services across government hospitals.
The initiative is led by Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, overseeing this policy's implementation. The focus remains on delivering structured and high-quality healthcare services to patients across all districts without relying on cosmetic changes.
In recent developments, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy confirmed that the government will soon introduce digital health cards for all residents. These cards are expected to streamline access to medical records and health services.
Additionally, the government has proposed the establishment of a new health campus near Shamshabad airport, covering 1,000 acres and focusing on health tourism. The facility is expected to be a key node for the region's medical services and allied sectors.
In parallel, Telangana is preparing to launch a dedicated Life Sciences policy to strengthen its positioning in pharmaceutical and biotech innovation. The policy will concentrate on emerging segments, including cell and gene therapy (CGT), genomics, biologics, peptides, and precision medicine.
