The council aims to accelerate AI adoption in life sciences, further cementing Hyderabad's position as a hub for innovation in the sector.
The Telangana government has announced plans to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) advisory council specifically for the life sciences sector by January 2025.
This initiative is part of the broader nine-member Telangana AI Advisory Council, which was unveiled during a recent event.
The council aims to accelerate AI adoption in life sciences, further cementing Hyderabad's position as a hub for innovation in the sector.
Telangana Industries and IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said, "We will extend every possible support to help companies and institutions adopt AI in their operations and grow from Hyderabad."
In a significant move, 40 life sciences companies, including Novartis, Sanofi, Roche, and Bayer, with their Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in Telangana, have collaborated to form a life sciences GCC consortium.
This consortium will focus on three key areas: talent development, operational efficiency, and strengthening the supply ecosystem.
"Companies like Novartis, BMS, Sanofi, and others are at the forefront of developing solutions in AI, data science, and cloud computing. I was personally keen to get these companies together to help synergize efforts," Minister Sridhar Babu added,
The consortium will work closely with academic institutions to design curriculum and training programs, ensuring a steady pipeline of AI-trained professionals for the life sciences sector.
The state government is also rolling out AI and machine learning training programs targeted at healthcare and life sciences companies.
A specialized university dedicated to AI is under consideration, aimed at providing skilled talent and fostering innovation.
Minister Babu elaborated, "We plan to roll out a training program on AI & ML focused on life sciences and healthcare. This will ensure an ample supply of highly trained AI engineers and specialists for life sciences companies."
Additionally, the government is studying global AI policies to develop a robust framework that aligns with ethical and inclusive AI growth.
Four members of the nine-member Telangana AI Advisory Council have already been identified as guides for these efforts.
The minister reaffirmed Telangana's vision for an AI city with advanced infrastructure to support AI activities, adding, "We are working to improve infrastructure to ensure Hyderabad remains at the forefront of AI development."
