The Oculus Myopia Master offers a contactless and painless diagnostic approach, measuring critical eye parameters such as axial length, keratometry, and refraction.
Surya Eye Hospital, a leading eye care center in India, has launched Western India’s first Oculus Myopia Master, an advanced diagnostic tool developed in Germany to track and manage myopia progression in children.
The launch was marked by a Media Round Table dedicated to myopia management, which brought together healthcare professionals, industry experts, and media representatives.
The Oculus Myopia Master offers a contactless and painless diagnostic approach, measuring critical eye parameters such as axial length, keratometry, and refraction.
Developed collaboratively by OCULUS GmbH, Germany, and the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI), Australia, the tool leverages an AI-based model for data analysis, enabling personalized treatment plans for children.
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a burgeoning global health challenge, with projections estimating that 40% of Indian children will be affected by 2030. A study revealed a myopia prevalence of 15.3% among individuals aged 29 and above in Maharashtra, with other studies indicating a rate of 17%.
Globally, myopia prevalence has tripled to 36% from 1990 to 2023, and Asia is expected to be disproportionately affected, with 69% of the population at risk of moderate myopia by 2050.
Dr Vinod Goyal, Senior Ophthalmologist and Director of Surya Eye Hospital, emphasized the importance of early intervention, stating, “Myopia is a pressing global health issue that requires proactive measures. Through the Myopia Master, we aim to provide comprehensive, preventive care to improve outcomes for children affected by myopia.”
Dr Jay Goyal, LASIK and Retina Specialist and Director of Surya Eye Hospital noted, “By adopting the Myopia Master, we aim to provide accurate diagnoses and tailored care plans, reducing children’s dependency on glasses and minimizing risks such as retinal detachment and glaucoma.”
With myopia affecting one in three children globally, Surya Eye Hospital’s proactive measures address an urgent need for early detection and management. The hospital’s efforts align with global health priorities, ensuring that children receive timely and comprehensive eye care.
