The initiative, known as the Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) 108 Ambulance Project, is aimed at enhancing emergency response across the state with an investment of approximately Rs 1600 crore.
SumeetSSG, a collaboration between India’s Sumeet Group Enterprises and Spain’s SSG Matrix, has announced a large-scale upgrade to Maharashtra’s emergency medical services (EMS) with the launch of a new fleet of advanced ambulances.
The initiative, known as the Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) 108 Ambulance Project, is aimed at enhancing emergency response across the state with an investment of approximately INR 1600 Cr.
This launch coincided with Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's visit to India, where he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss bilateral initiatives. During his visit, Sánchez inspected the new ambulance fleet and highlighted its potential to elevate healthcare standards in India.
The new SumeetSSG fleet features a range of high-tech ambulances designed for critical and diverse healthcare needs. The fleet includes Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances, Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances, neonatal ambulances, first responder bikes, and even boat ambulances for remote water-access areas. In addition, the fleet includes forward-looking plans to integrate drones and helicopters to improve EMS response.
SumeetSSG’s ambulances are equipped with specialized medical technologies to address the critical “golden hour” of emergencies. Each vehicle is fitted with Mobile Data Terminals (MDT), GPS, caller location tracking, CCTV, and advanced TRIAGE systems. Additional onboard systems include Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), and a Vehicle Tracking and Management System (VTMS). These technologies aim to enhance response efficiency, communication with hospitals, and timely patient transport.
At the project unveiling, Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez praised the initiative’s potential to significantly impact India’s healthcare infrastructure, stating that the upgraded fleet represented an important step towards “improved healthcare services” in the country.
Summit Salunke, Vice Chairman of Sumeet Group Enterprises, emphasized the transformative potential of this partnership in India’s EMS sector. “I would like to express my profound gratitude to Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, for hosting Mr. Pedro Sánchez Pérez Castejón, Hon’ble Prime Minister of Spain, and his business delegation on their visit to India,” he stated.
Salunke further elaborated on the joint collaboration, saying, “We proudly showcased to the Spanish Prime Minister our latest fleet and innovative service models, developed specifically for the Indian market in partnership with SSG, one of Europe’s largest ambulance service operators. This collaboration holds the potential to bring transformative changes to India’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) sector.”
Operating under the State National Health Mission, the MEMS 108 project aims to provide timely, critical care to patients facing a range of emergencies—from accidents to natural disasters. The project’s rollout across Maharashtra is expected to occur in five phases over the coming months.
This phased approach is anticipated to enable the state to gradually implement and integrate the high-tech fleet into its current EMS framework.
