The system is now the first in the country authorized to carry out these complex medical procedures, making it a landmark achievement in the field of surgical robotics.
SSI Mantra, India's first indigenous surgical robotic system developed by SS Innovations, has received regulatory approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) for telesurgery and teleproctoring.
This approval marks a significant milestone in Indian medical technology, allowing the system to perform advanced surgical procedures remotely.
The system is now the first in the country authorized to carry out these complex medical procedures, making it a landmark achievement in the field of surgical robotics.
SSI Mantra's ability to enable telesurgery and teleproctoring is expected to enhance access to specialized surgical care, particularly in rural and underserved regions of India, where healthcare infrastructure is often limited.
Expressing his thoughts on this achievement, Dr Sudhir Srivastava, founder, chairman, and CEO of SS Innovations, said, “Reaching this milestone with SSI Mantra is a testament to our vision of transforming surgical practices, enhancing access, and driving the adoption of robotic surgery. Telesurgery and Teleproctoring have been a dream in the making for over four decades, and today, it has finally come to life. With the technology and bandwidth available now, we can truly decentralize and democratize surgical expertise, reaching patients and surgeons in the most remote parts of India and the world."
Dr Srivastava further emphasized the importance of the system in addressing India’s healthcare challenges, especially in smaller towns and rural areas.
“This innovation is a game-changer, especially for our country, where much of the population lives in smaller towns and rural areas. By enabling remote surgical intervention, we are reshaping the future of healthcare,” he stated.
The approval of telesurgery capabilities for the SSI Mantra system is expected to play a crucial role in bridging the gap between urban and rural healthcare, particularly by providing remote surgical expertise to underserved areas.
The SSI Mantra system is a modular multi-arm system with advanced features, including 3D 4K visualisation, real-time imaging, and a touch panel monitor to provide surgeons and medical teams with essential patient information. These features are designed to improve safety and efficiency during surgeries.
