Equipped with three built-in sensors, the Galaxy Ring can track sleep, oxygen levels, heart rate, and skin temperature.
Samsung claims the device offers up to seven days of battery life, a water resistance of 100 meters, and a durable Titanium Grade 5 finish.
Additionally, users can control their Samsung Galaxy smartphones paired with the ring, including taking pictures and turning off alarms by simply pinching their thumb and ring finger.
Released alongside the Galaxy Ring, the latest Galaxy Watch7 features a new glycation end products (AGEs) index, which reflects the overall biological aging process and indicates the user’s metabolic health.
“Wearable devices, being attached to the body, are crucial for more accurate health monitoring. We aim to offer unique health functionalities through our latest Galaxy wearable portfolio, leveraging advanced technologies like state-of-the-art sensors and AI. This approach enhances the competitiveness of our wearable products compared to other companies,” a Samsung official stated.
The longstanding rivalry between Samsung and Apple seems to have been reignited with Samsung's recent showcase of the Galaxy Ring in the digital healthcare market.
Notably, Apple has yet to debut a wearable ring of its own.
Both tech giants offer smartwatches with functions ranging from tracking users’ sleep latency, respiratory rate, heart rate, and menstrual cycle.
However, Apple currently holds the top position in the global smartwatch market, leading with a 21% market share in the first quarter of this year, as reported by Market research firm Counterpoint Research.
Huawei followed with 10%, while Samsung secured third place with 9%.
The Galaxy Ring, however, currently faces no competition from Apple, potentially giving Samsung a significant edge in the digital health wearables market.
The spotlight is now on Apple as tech enthusiasts eagerly watch to see how the company will respond to Samsung's latest innovation in this space.
Earlier, Samsung launched an advanced health monitoring smartwatch, expanding its lineup with a budget-friendly option that incorporates various features of the Galaxy Watch series at an affordable price point.
Additionally, it includes Samsung's BioActive sensors for comprehensive health and fitness tracking, as well as body composition analysis and personalized fitness coaching.
