Samsung has introduced a new medication tracking feature to its Samsung Health app in India, aiming to help users manage their medications more effectively.
This addition is designed to support individuals with chronic health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS/PCOD), which require regular medication adherence.
The feature is part of Samsung’s broader efforts to provide comprehensive healthcare management tools through its devices and services.
Medication Adherence Made Easier
The medications feature will allow users to input their prescribed or over-the-counter medications into the app and receive reminders on when to take them, along with alerts for refills.
This function is particularly helpful for patients on long-term medication regimes for chronic diseases, where consistent dosing is essential for health management.
“We aim to build a holistic health platform for people to better understand and manage their health by connecting devices and services. With the addition of a medications feature for India in the Samsung Health app, we believe users will be able to manage their medications more conveniently, improve adherence, and ultimately maintain better health,” said Kyungyun Roo, Managing Director of Samsung Research Institute, Noida.
The feature was developed through collaboration between Samsung’s R&D, Design, and Consumer Experience teams, taking into account the specific healthcare needs of Indian consumers.
It allows users to track medication adherence and provides detailed information about their medications, including descriptions, side effects, and potential drug interactions.
Personalized Alerts for Medication Management
The Samsung Health app users can set personalized alerts to remind them when to take their medications. These reminders can be adjusted based on the medication's importance to the user, with alert settings ranging from 'gentle' to 'strong'.
For added convenience, Galaxy Watch users can receive these reminders on their wearable devices, allowing them to stay on track with their medication schedules even when they are away from their phones.
The new feature will also provide safety guidance for adverse reactions related to drug-to-drug interactions, ensuring that users can manage their medications safely and effectively.
Broader Health Features of Samsung Health
In addition to the new medication tracking tool, the Samsung Health app already includes a range of advanced health management tools.
These features include sleep monitoring, mindfulness programs, and irregular heart rhythm notification capabilities, making the app a comprehensive platform for personal health management.
The medication tracking feature will be available through app updates in India. Samsung aims to make the process of managing medications seamless and user-friendly, helping individuals improve their medication adherence and, ultimately, their health outcomes.
