Agentforce for Health supports clinical care by enabling patient-provider matching based on geography and preferences while verifying insurance benefits.

Salesforce has introduced Agentforce for Health, an AI-driven update designed to enhance administrative efficiency in healthcare. Announced on Friday, the rollout includes AI-powered "skills" for clinical care, public health agencies, and pharmaceutical companies. While some functionalities are available immediately, additional updates are scheduled for June and September.

Agentforce for Health supports clinical care by enabling patient-provider matching based on geography and preferences while verifying insurance benefits. Public health agencies can use it for disease monitoring, financial assistance assessments, and home health documentation. Pharmaceutical companies will benefit from AI tools for clinical trial candidate matching, site selection, and adverse event management.

Brian Glass, CIO at Transcend, an early adopter of the system, emphasized that AI is meant to assist, not replace, medical professionals. "Agentforce is not a doctor. We want agentic AI to support people's actions, not necessarily replace them. So, we're hoping that it answers some preliminary questions and sets the stage for your conversation with the medical provider. But we're very cautious to ensure we're not giving medical advice. You have to talk to a human."

Healthcare’s Gradual AI Adoption

The healthcare industry has historically been cautious about AI, but perspectives are shifting. Jennifer Eaton, an analyst at IDC, noted that while some IT leaders remain hesitant, others are embracing AI to address inefficiencies. "Some IT leaders are willing to embrace AI wholeheartedly, while others want to take it slow. But there's no question that AI—and in particular, Agentforce for Health—can chip away at longtime problems in healthcare, such as patient data siloed in different systems."

Eaton highlighted how AI could enhance patient interactions by providing a comprehensive view of medical records. "Generative AI can potentially give everyone in a patient's care team a holistic view of the patient that wasn't achievable before, starting with the person who answers the phone at a contact center. When GenAI can search through many data sources at once, a contact center agent, for example, can see what vaccines are due for a patient calling in and book those visits, as well as annual or follow-up appointments that might have been missed."

AI Integration Across Healthcare Partners

Salesforce has partnered with multiple healthcare providers to implement Agentforce for Health’s capabilities. Athenahealth users will gain access to AI-driven case management and prescription refills, while Availity users can utilize AI for insurance prior authorizations. Infinitus users will see automated utilization management reports and benefits verification for durable medical equipment, drugs, and therapy. ComplianceQuest users conducting clinical trials will have AI-driven automation for quality and safety validation, post-market surveillance, and other documentation-heavy processes.

Agentforce for Health was introduced alongside the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2025 Global Health Conference & Exhibition, which will take place in Las Vegas in March.
