The new ambulances, equipped with GPS, are mandated to reach patients within 15 minutes in urban areas and 20 minutes in rural areas.
On Sunday, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann inaugurated 58 new ambulances equipped with the latest medical technology, boosting the state's emergency response capabilities.
This addition raises the total number of ambulances in Punjab to 325. However, the specifics of the technology used in the ambulances were not disclosed.
The new ambulances, equipped with GPS, are mandated to reach patients within 15 minutes in urban areas and 20 minutes in rural areas.
CM Mann emphasized that these ambulances will collaborate with the 'Sadak Surkhya Force' (Road Safety Force) to ensure timely medical assistance during emergencies.
The 58 ambulances, which were acquired for INR 14 Cr, come with lifesaving drugs and ultra-modern equipment.
"These ambulances will act as a catalyst to provide primary treatment to patients, saving their lives in critical times," Mann stated.
The existing fleet of ambulances has already been pivotal in saving lives, having transported over one Lakh patients to hospitals this year. This includes 10,737 heart patients and 28,540 pregnant women, with 80 babies delivered safely en route.
Further, the 'Sadak Surkhya Force' works in coordination with the 108 helpline to ensure that ambulance services are readily available for commuters involved in road accidents. This collaboration aims to reduce fatalities and provide immediate medical care.
CM Mann highlighted the transformative impact of the 'aam aadmi clinics' on Punjab's healthcare sector. Over 1.75 Cr people have benefited from these clinics, with more than 95 percent of daily visitors recovering from their ailments. "These clinics have revolutionized the healthcare sector in the state," Mann noted.
The Punjab government is heavily investing in upgrading the health sector. Medical colleges in Hoshiarpur, Sangrur, and Kapurthala are under development, further enhancing medical education and services in the state.
Mann also pointed to a positive trend of reverse migration, with people returning to Punjab after previously moving abroad.
He attributed this to the improved healthcare system and employment opportunities, stating that his government has provided over 43,000 government jobs in the past two years.
CM Mann reiterated the state government's commitment to ensuring quality healthcare for all citizens by continuously upgrading infrastructure and services.
"A lot of resources and funds are being pumped in to upgrade the health sector in the state to ensure that people get access to quality health services," he said.
