Pristyn Care Starts Bangladesh Operations, Allocates Rs 100 Crore for Expansion

Healthcare delivery startup Pristyn Care has commenced operations in Bangladesh and revealed plans to invest Rs 100 crore in the next two years to expand presence in the neighbouring country.

The healthtech unicorn plans to establish five patient care centres in Dhaka and Chattogram (Chittagong) by March 2024. It also intends to recruit 200 employees across various departments as part of its expansion plans.

Pristyn Care, founded in August 2018 by Harsimarbir Singh, Dr. Vaibhav Kapoor, and Dr. Garima Sawhney, offers secondary care surgeries. It has a team of 400+ skilled surgeons using advanced medical technology across 800+ surgical centres in 40 cities.

Pristyn Care's decision to venture into the Bangladeshi market comes at a time when the country's healthcare industry is projected to reach USD 14 billion by the end of 2023. Cofounder of Pristyn Care, Harsimarbir Singh, talked about the unicorn's substantial investment planning strategies in building a robust healthcare infrastructure over the next two years.

By setting up patient care centres in key cities such as Dhaka and Chattogram, Pristyn Care aims to cater to the medical needs of a wider population. The expansion plan includes infrastructure development and hiring a significant workforce across various departments to ensure seamless operations and quality healthcare services.

In December 2021, Pristyn Care entered the coveted unicorn club after raising $96 million in a Series E round led by investors including Sequoia Capital, Tiger Global, Winter Capital, and others.

Going with the layoff trend in the startup ecosystem, the healthtech startup had undergone a layoff exercise in March 2023 where it reportedly fired 300-350 employees across departments.
