Prime Healthcare Finalizes Acquisition of Ascension Illinois Hospitals

Prime Healthcare has completed the acquisition of eight Ascension Illinois hospitals and four senior living and post-acute care facilities, marking a significant shift in healthcare services across the Greater Chicago area. The deal, which includes physician practices, received approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, the Archdiocese of Chicago, and the Vatican.

The transition has raised concerns about maintaining healthcare quality, which officials have sought to address. As part of its commitment, Prime Healthcare has pledged $250 million for facility upgrades, capital improvements, and technological advancements, ensuring continued access to care for patients, including the most vulnerable populations. The organization also intends to sustain charity care programs and maintain the hospitals’ Catholic affiliation.
