The MANAS initiative also features a web portal, a mobile app, and integration with the UMANG app, ensuring citizens can anonymously connect with NCB 24x7.
In the 112th episode of PM Modi’s monthly radio broadcast, Mann Ki Baat, the PM urged individuals and organizations to use the National Anti-Narcotics Helpline 'Manas' in India's fight against drug abuse.
During his broadcast, PM Modi highlighted the pervasive concern among families about drug exposure and addiction. He announced the launch of the National Anti-Narcotics Helpline 'Manas,' a significant initiative aimed at addressing these challenges.
"Every family worries that their child might be exposed to drugs. Now, to help such people, the government has launched the National Anti-Narcotics Helpline 'Manas'," PM Modi stated.
The PM detailed the resources available through the new helpline, including a toll-free number, 1933. This number provides access to necessary advice and information related to rehabilitation.
He encouraged anyone with information about drug-related activities to use the helpline and share their knowledge with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), assuring that all shared information would be kept confidential.
"I urge all the people, families, and organizations involved in making India drug-free to use Manas extensively," PM Modi said.
Union home minister Amit Shah launched the MANAS (Madak Padarth Nisedh Asuchna Kendra) Portal on July 18, which includes the toll-free number 1933.
The portal is designed to offer advice on de-addiction and rehabilitation, as well as a platform for sharing information about drug trafficking. The MANAS initiative also features a web portal, a mobile app, and integration with the UMANG app, ensuring citizens can connect with NCB 24x7 anonymously.
The PM emphasized the issue of illicit drug cultivation, noting that the NCB, in collaboration with BISAG-N, has developed a web portal and mobile app called "MAPDRUGS."
This tool is intended to curb illegal cultivation by providing accurate GIS information, enabling concerned agencies to destroy such illicit crops effectively.
Likewise, in a move to combat drug abuse among children, Union minister of state for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai recently launched the "Prahari Portal" under the Joint Action Plan.
The "Prahari Portal" aims to prevent contraband sales near schools and raise awareness about drug abuse among students and teachers. It is part of a comprehensive strategy to protect youth from substance abuse, forming Prahari Clubs to educate the school community. This initiative aligns with the vision of a "Nasha Mukt Bharat" (Drug-Free India).
