Resharing Tedros' tweet, PM Modi emphasized the importance of a healthy planet for a better future.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s commitment to advancing global health and integrating technology into healthcare during the G20 Leaders' Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Responding to a tweet by World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, whom he affectionately called "Tulsi Bhai," Modi pledged to strengthen global health efforts.
Resharing Tedros' tweet, PM Modi emphasized the importance of a healthy planet for a better future.
“Dear Tulsi Bhai, a healthy planet is a better planet. India is working actively in this sector. We are attaching great priority to integrating technology too. At the same time, we will strengthen global efforts in this regard,” Modi tweeted.
The Prime Minister’s remarks reflect India’s focus on leveraging technological innovations to improve healthcare delivery and its commitment to supporting global health initiatives.
Tedros expressed gratitude to PM Modi and other global leaders for their support of the WHO's Investment Round, which seeks funding for the agency’s Fourteenth General Programme of Work.
The strategy aims to save 40 million additional lives over the next four years.
The G20 leaders’ declaration reaffirmed the WHO’s central role in global health governance and stressed the need for stable and transparent financing.
The summit also endorsed the WHO Investment Round as a critical mechanism to secure additional resources for global health initiatives.
PM Modi first referred to Tedros as "Tulsi Bhai" during the 2022 Global AYUSH Investment and Innovation Summit, a gesture appreciated by the WHO chief.
This camaraderie underscores India’s deep collaboration with the WHO on health priorities.
In a similar development, last month, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Singh Patel, announced that India is strengthening its global partnerships with international organizations and regional networks to standardize regulations for medical devices and diagnostics.
Speaking at a recent event, she emphasized India's dedication to aligning its regulatory standards with global benchmarks to ensure the safety and effectiveness of medical products.
Patel also highlighted the government’s continuous efforts to modernize the regulatory framework to meet international standards.
