PM Modi stated that the new AIIMS in Darbhanga aims to advance healthcare access not only for the Mithila, Kosi, and Tirhut regions of Bihar but also for neighboring West Bengal and Nepal.
PM Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Darbhanga, marking Bihar’s second AIIMS facility after Patna.
Built on 187 acres, the new AIIMS will cost an estimated INR 1,264 Cr. At the event, Modi also inaugurated infrastructure projects spanning road, rail, healthcare, and energy, with a total value of around INR 12,000 Cr.
Modi stated that the new AIIMS in Darbhanga aims to advance healthcare access not only for the Mithila, Kosi, and Tirhut regions of Bihar but also for neighboring West Bengal and Nepal.
“A significant step has been taken today to realise the dream of establishing AIIMS in Darbhanga, which will bring in a significant transformation in the health sector in Bihar. Not only people from the Mithila, Kosi and Tirhut regions of Bihar but from West Bengal and Nepal, too, will come here for medical assistance. The construction of the AIIMS at Darbhanga will also create several employment opportunities for people,” PM Modi said on the occasion at Sobhan in Darbhanga.
Further, the facility is expected to include a super-specialty hospital, AYUSH block, medical and nursing colleges, a night shelter, and residential amenities, creating substantial local employment.
“Earlier, there was only one AIIMS, and that too was in Delhi, but today, about two dozen AIIMS are there in different parts of the country,” the Prime Minister added.
Additionally, the PM launched 18 Jan Aushadhi Kendras at railway stations nationwide.
Moreover, he inaugurated national highway projects valued at INR 5,070 Cr, including the four-lane Galgalia-Araria section of NH 327E and a major bridge on NH 110 at Bahadurganj.
Railway developments worth INR 1,740 Cr, various petroleum and natural gas projects totaling INR 4,020 Cr, and a bitumen manufacturing facility at Indian Oil’s Barauni refinery were also part of the launch.
