The newly established GlobalFoundries’ Kolkata Power Centre was identified as a key initiative that will support biotech research and development.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with leading CEOs, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai and IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, to discuss advancements in biotechnology and its potential for collaboration.
This dialogue on biotech followed Modi’s bilateral discussions with US President Joe Biden, where both leaders acknowledged the significance of advancing biotechnology for global health.
The focus was on exploring opportunities for collaboration between their respective industries in the US and India. Key topics of discussion included artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, and biotechnology.
"Had a fruitful roundtable with tech CEOs in New York, discussing aspects relating to technology, innovation and more. Also highlighted the strides made by India in this field. I am glad to see immense optimism towards India," PM Modi stated.

During the discussion, PM Modi emphasized that technology collaboration, including initiatives such as the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET), is fundamental to the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
Modi highlighted the ongoing economic transformation in India, particularly in the areas of electronics and information technology manufacturing, semiconductors, biotechnology, and green development.
Further, the PM urged companies to leverage India’s growth narrative for collaboration and innovation, encouraging them to co-develop, co-design, and co-produce in India for global markets.
He also reassured business leaders of India’s strong dedication to protecting intellectual property and promoting technological innovation.
Additionally, he discussed India’s BIO E3 policy, aimed at positioning the country as a biotech powerhouse.
Reportedly, the CEOs expressed a strong interest in investing and collaborating with India. The tech leaders agreed that investing in startups would create synergistic opportunities for innovation and the development of new technologies in India.
The meeting, organized by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), aimed to strengthen relationships with industry leaders.
MIT Professor Anantha Chandrakasan, Chief Innovation and Strategy Officer at the Institute and Dean of the MIT School of Engineering, who chaired the roundtable, thanked PM Modi and the CEOs for their participation, reinforcing MIT’s commitment to advancing technology for the global good.
