Odisha CM Launches Health Infra Projects Worth INR 1,140 Cr

The health infrastructure projects include around 103 projects worth INR 140 Cr. While the CM laid the foundation stone for 372 projects that would be implemented with a budget of INR 1,000 Cr.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has launched health infrastructure projects worth over INR 1,140 Cr as a part of the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY).

This move aligns with the government’s aim to turn Odisha into a role model as a health service provider.

The health infrastructure projects include around 103 projects worth INR 140 Cr. While the CM laid the foundation stone for 372 projects that would be implemented with a budget of INR 1,000 Cr.

Further, the government also launched a helpline for Odia people who stay outside the state and want to avail services of BSKY.

Reportedly, the projects to be completed include 650-bed teaching hospitals at Puri and Koraput, 100-bed teaching hospitals at Balasore, Baripada, Balangir, Keonjhar, Bhawanipatna, Phulbani and Jajpur and trauma care with surgery complex at PGI-Bhubaneswar.

Moreover, the government is strengthening infrastructure in all health facilities including Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and District Headquarters Hospitals (DHHs).

The Chief Minister said the government aims to achieve the goal of ‘Healthy Odisha, Happy Odisha’. It is working at all levels to reach this target, he said and added that work to transform the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack into a world-class health institution is in progress.

He continued to emphasise that the BSKY has turned into a blessing for the people. At least one lakh patients are getting medical treatment under the scheme every year. “It reflects our commitment to ensure quality health services to the people and make Odisha a role model in the sector,” he added.

Launched in 2018, the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) is a healthcare program by the Odisha government. This initiative is designed to achieve comprehensive health coverage, particularly targeting economically disadvantaged households. This scheme provides cost-free healthcare services to all patients at state government healthcare facilities, starting from sub-centres to the District Head headquarters hospitals.

In November this year, the Odisha government procured 70 ambulances for smooth patient care and transportation. These newly introduced ambulances serve multiple purposes, including the transportation of patients receiving treatment through the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), transfer of patients to private hospitals, and deployment for use in correctional facilities, for VIPs, and at special events.
