The state has allocated INR 21,000 Cr for healthcare in the 2024-25 budget. Majhi stated that despite a significant health budget, lack of awareness continues to contribute to the disease burden.

In a recent development, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has stressed the need for focused efforts to improve healthcare services in the state’s backward regions. He said the government is prioritizing healthcare infrastructure and patient care to address existing gaps.

The state has allocated INR 21,000 Cr for healthcare in the 2024-25 budget. Majhi stated that despite a significant health budget, lack of awareness continues to contribute to the disease burden.

“The government is committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across Odisha,” he said.

He also noted that of the INR 13 lakh Cr investment proposals received during the Utkarsh Odisha conclave, INR 50,000 Cr is earmarked for the health sector, creating an estimated 25,000 jobs.

“The development of health services is essential for Odisha’s growth,” he added.

Majhi reiterated the importance of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which covers 60 crore people across India, in improving healthcare access in Odisha.

The chief minister reviewed the status of the trauma care center at Dharanidhar Medical College and Hospital (MCH) and raised concerns over the absence of an in-patient department (IPD) despite two years since its inauguration. He directed authorities to take immediate steps to make the IPD operational.

Days back, the government implemented the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) in the state.

The agreement, between the National Health Authority and Odisha's Health and Family Welfare Department, aims to offer affordable healthcare to millions in the eastern state.
