Professor Joe Harrison announced that all major NHS EPR suppliers are now integrated with or on track to connect to the NHS App. With 99.7% of GP practices and 82% of acute trusts connected, full connectivity is expected next year.
Professor Joe Harrison, trust chief executive and national director of the NHS App, has revealed plans to integrate the NHS App with Epic’s electronic patient record (EPR) system in 2025.
The integration aims to boost patient engagement by simplifying access to health records and notifications. Harrison also described the NHS App as the world’s most comprehensive patient engagement tool.
The NHS App will integrate with Epic’s EPR, simplifying health information management for patients. Reportedly, monthly logins have surged to over 50 million from around 25 million logins in March 2024. There exists a goal of hitting 100 million logins within the next year.
The app now connects with nearly all major EPR providers for wide-ranging access for its users.
Currently, 99.7% of GP practices and 82% of acute trusts are linked to the NHS App, with full connectivity anticipated by next year.
Professor Harrison also highlighted the critical importance of connecting to the NHS App, warning that providers failing to adopt it risk being left behind. During the announcement, he was joined by Rachel Hope from NHS England and Chris Fleming from Public Digital, underscoring the teamwork driving this initiative.
He also addressed concerns related to the government’s recent announcement about dissolving NHS England, emphasizing the importance of offering compassionate support to those affected.
Recently, NHS South East London Integrated Care Board (ICB) launched a comprehensive AI framework to facilitate the safe, ethical, and effective adoption of artificial intelligence across London’s healthcare system.
