Singapore-based Digital health startup Nervotec has developed new software that allows users to turn any laptop or phone camera into a health screening device.

The software uses contactless scanning technology to measure heart rate and blood pressure within seconds, enhancing telemedicine consultations and expediting mass screening.

Nervotec’s software was demonstrated at the launch event for Synapxe’s new innovation lab and office at the Elementum building in Buona Vista.

Synapxe, formerly known as Integrated Health Information Systems, was rebranded in 2023 to focus on digital health solutions.

Health Minister Ong Ye Kung commended Synapxe for advancing digital health efforts, including the implementation of a next-generation electronic medical record system and cybersecurity measures.

He further urged collaboration to address healthcare challenges and improve service delivery.

Jonathan Lau, founder of Nervotec, explained that the software operates under well-lit conditions using standard smartphone or laptop cameras.

It detects changes in facial color saturation at 30 frames per second to estimate blood pressure and heart rate.

The software also measures haemoglobin and SpO2 levels by analyzing fluctuations in red, green, and blue wavelengths.

However, Lau did not disclose the methods used for these measurements, citing it as the software’s “secret sauce.”

The technology is currently undergoing peer review and will be tested on up to 1,000 patient scans to enhance accuracy.

Other innovations showcased included SoundEye’s fall-detection system, which employs a laser sensor to monitor patient safety in bed or wheelchair.

The device, trialed by nurses at Singapore Christian Home, reduces the need for physical restraints, thus improving patient quality of life. Unlike CCTV, the sensor captures only body shapes without identifying patient details.

Generative-AI tools featured at the event included Health Kaki, an app offering personalized health goals, recipe recommendations, and nutritional information.

Synapxe has also created a generative-AI platform for testing and deploying AI applications, such as chatbots and workflow management systems, in a secure environment.

CEO Ngiam Siew Ying stated, “Our new facility allows us to consolidate our monitoring, response, and communication capabilities, enabling quicker issue detection and resolution.”
