New Jersey-based Englewood Health has achieved Stage 6 rank on the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM™).
This designation signifies the healthcare system's advanced implementation of electronic medical records (EMRs) across its network, including Englewood Hospital and the Englewood Health Physician Network.
HIMSS EMRAM is a standardized assessment tool that measures an organization's maturity level in utilizing electronic medical records.
"Reaching Stage 6 on HIMSS EMRAM reflects Englewood Health's dedication to adopting cutting-edge technology and integrating it seamlessly into our clinical processes," said Inderpal Kohli, Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Englewood Health.
"This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to exceptional patient care through the strategic deployment of advanced EMR capabilities across our entire healthcare system," Kohli added.
The model considers factors such as clinical outcomes, patient engagement, and the strategic use of EMR technology.
With eight stages, ranging from 0 to 7, EMRAM provides a roadmap for healthcare systems to optimize their EMR usage and improve patient care delivery.
To achieve Stage 6, the second-highest level, Englewood Health has implemented a range of advanced EMR functionalities across various patient care areas. These include:
Comprehensive Physician Documentation: All physician notes and charting are fully integrated within the EMR system.
Deployment Across All Practices: The EMR system is utilized throughout all settings within the Englewood Health network.
Computerized Physician Order Entry: Physicians can electronically order all necessary services within the EMR platform.
Closed-Loop Medication Administration: Technology safeguards against medication errors by facilitating a closed-loop system for medication administration.
Advanced Clinical Decision Support: The EMR system provides evidence-based protocols and clinical decision support tools for healthcare professionals.
Beyond Stage 6: Advanced Interchange and Wearable Devices
As a Stage 6 organization, Englewood Health has also achieved advanced capabilities in data interchange and wearable device integration.
For instance, in specific specialty areas, the Englewood Health Physician Network utilizes wearable devices or implants that allow for remote patient monitoring and care delivery.
