The surgery, performed on a 45-year-old patient weighing 155 kilograms, addressed obstructive sleep apnea and high blood pressure.
In a significant development, Pristyn Care, in collaboration with Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics, conducted the world’s inaugural live bariatric surgery using the Apple Vision Pro.
The procedure, led by Dr Mohit Bhandari, a bariatric and robotic surgeon, took place at an undisclosed hospital in New Delhi.
The surgery, performed on a 45-year-old patient weighing 155 kilograms, addressed obstructive sleep apnea and high blood pressure.
Reportedly, Dr Bhandari and his team completed the surgery, which included a sleeve gastric bypass and a single anastomosis duodenal-lleal (SADI) procedure in just 40 minutes.
Talking about the intricate procedure, the lead surgeon Bhandari, said, "The successful use of Apple Vision Pro in these complex procedures opens up new possibilities in surgical precision and patient outcomes. We are proud to lead the way in integrating advanced AR technology into medical practice."
The Apple Vision Pro, an advanced augmented reality (AR) device, provided an immersive 3D environment, enabling precise visualization of complex anatomical structures.
This technological innovation minimized risks and enhanced outcomes during the sleeve gastric bypass and Single Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal (SADI) procedures.
On the development, Dr Vaibhav Kapoor, cofounder, Pristyn Care, said, "The successful integration of Apple Vision Pro into bariatric surgery marks a significant milestone in our journey towards revolutionising surgical procedures We are proud to be at the forefront of this technological advancement, which promises to enhance precision, improve outcomes, and set new benchmarks in the healthcare industry.’’
Founded in August 2018 by Harsimarbir Singh, Dr Vaibhav Kapoor, and Dr. Garima Sawhney, Pristyn Care is a Gurugram-based healthtech startup specializing in minimally invasive medical and surgical interventions.

Days back, a team of surgeons at GEM Hospital, Chennai, leveraged the Apple Vision Pro headset to conduct over 30 laparoscopic surgeries, which include procedures for stomach cancer and gallbladder issues.
Reportedly, the surgeons achieved exceptional precision and comfort. This headset, designed for both professional and personal use, offers functionalities within a mixed-reality setting.
In March, Apple’s Vision Pro headset was deployed during spinal surgeries at Cromwell Hospital in London.
A surgical team at Cromwell Hospital, led by orthopedic spinal surgeons Dr Fady Sedra and Dr Syed Aftab, used Apple’s Vision Pro for two microsurgical spine procedures.
Interestingly, it was a scrub nurse who incorporated the headset seamlessly into the surgical process.
The nurse's use of real-time data streaming, surgical preparation, and instrument selection were all enhanced by the device, potentially reducing human errors and bolstering surgical confidence.
The hospital’s introduction to the Vision Pro headset came through eXeX, a tech platform provider for healthcare institutions.
