The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur has unveiled a  new cardiac catheterization laboratory.

This addition aims to bolster the institute's capacity to handle cardiovascular procedures and provide an upgraded facility for regional patients.

Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav, who holds positions in the AYUSH and Health and Family Welfare ministries, led the inauguration ceremony.

Jadhav, accompanied by Chhattisgarh’s Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, highlighted the significance of the new lab in improving patient care.

The Center’s Specifications

The new cardiac catheterization lab at AIIMS Raipur marks a significant upgrade from the previous setup, which only had one lab performing between 25 and 30 angiographies per week.

This second lab is expected to substantially increase the number of procedures that can be conducted, thereby reducing patient waiting times and enhancing the overall efficiency of cardiac care at the facility.

“The second lab will not only reduce patient waiting times but also enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide timely and efficient cardiac care. The new lab will also serve as a critical training ground for medical students in the DM (Doctor of Medicine) Cardiology program, fostering a new generation of highly skilled cardiologists,” stated the hospital press release.l

This development aligns with the hospital's broader goal of expanding its capabilities to manage complex cardiac conditions and training future medical professionals.

Following the inauguration, Minister Jadhav, along with Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, visited several key departments within the AIIMS Raipur complex.

Their tour included the emergency pediatric department, the trauma and emergency department, and the AYUSH department.

In related developments, AIIMS Raipur partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai to implement an AI-assisted digital healthcare system to improve emergency care services. This collaboration was highlighted at a recent event, which featured a live demonstration of the system from the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at AIIMS Raipur.

The new system is designed to extend the reach of quality healthcare to remote and underserved areas, potentially enhancing medical assistance nationwide.
