By March 2026, the institution aims to have 22 high-end facilities, with four centres planned for the current fiscal year. To fuel this growth, Nephrocare India is actively exploring fundraising options, including a potential initial public offering (IPO).

In a strategic move, Nephrocare India, a leading renal care institution, has set forth ambitious plans to create 300 comprehensive renal care facilities across the nation over the next 8–10 years. The company, led by Dr Pratim Sengupta, founder and managing director, is adopting the hub and spoke model for this expansion.

By March 2026, the institution aims to have 22 high-end facilities, with four centres planned for the current fiscal year. To fuel this growth, Nephrocare India is actively exploring fundraising options, including a potential initial public offering (IPO).

Commenting on the same, Dr Sengupta highlighted the urgent need for such expansion, citing the alarming prevalence of kidney diseases in India, particularly those linked to diabetes.

He pointed out that despite an estimated seven crore patients with chronic kidney diseases, there are only around 12,881 centres in the country. This scarcity is primarily due to the lack of proper infrastructure and access to specialised renal care clinics.

To address the pressing need for awareness, Nephrocare India is organising a 'Walkathon' on its Foundation Day, December 15. As part of the event, the institution is also launching a mascot to connect with the public and raise awareness about various aspects of kidney health.

Commenting further, Dr Sengupta emphasised the importance of holistic care for individuals dealing with chronic diseases. He said, “A person suffering from any chronic disease has to live with it for a very long time, and hence it is important to provide holistic care and support to improve his quality of life."

Founded in 2014, Nephrocare is a provider of comprehensive kidney care and is part of Fresenius Medical Care, a global leader in products and services for patients with chronic kidney failure.

In a related development, Nephrocare is gearing up to establish 22 kidney care centres across India by March 2026, a move aimed at expanding its footprint in the country. The company is actively considering various fundraising avenues, including the possibility of an IPO, to meet its growth objectives.

The institution currently operates three kidney care clinics in addition to its flagship unit in Kolkata. Plans are underway to open three more centres in Shyambazar, Chandannagar, and North Bengal. Furthermore, Nephrocare intends to enter Chhattisgarh by setting up a centre in Raipur by March 2024, with an estimated investment of around INR 12 Cr.

This expansion aligns with a broader trend in the healthcare sector, as seen with Tata Capital leading a $10 million funding round for Mumbai-based Apex Kidney Care

The funds will primarily be used to expand Apex Kidney Care's dialysis network to 300 centres across India in the next 18-24 months.
