NABH has placed a strong focus on evaluating how hospitals integrate digital health solutions into their operations including the adoption of digital health technologies to improve clinical protocols and patient management.
The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) has announced the release of its 6th edition accreditation standards for hospitals.
These updated standards will be officially launched at the NABH Patient Safety Conference in New Delhi on September 17, 2024, and will come into effect on January 1, 2025.
The new edition introduces significant updates, with a particular emphasis on integrating digital health technologies. This includes the adoption of digital health technologies to improve clinical protocols and patient management.
Dr Atul Mohan Kochhar, CEO of NABH, said, "As we navigate through the dynamic landscape of healthcare, this edition stands as a testament to NABH's continuous commitment to elevating the quality and safety of healthcare services in our nation."
The updated standards also include enhanced protocols for patient safety, such as improved infection control measures and medical waste management, alongside a heightened focus on patient rights and involvement in care decisions.
"The 6th edition of NABH accreditation standards is a valuable resource for healthcare organizations committed to providing safe, effective, and patient-centered care. It reflects the best practices that will support hospitals in delivering world-class medical services," Kochhar added.
NABH has outlined a detailed transition plan for implementing the new standards. From January 1, 2025, all new accreditation applications will be assessed under the 6th edition.
Hospitals with current accreditation can continue under the 5th edition until their next assessment, at which point they can transition to the new standards. Surveillance assessments under the 5th edition will continue until March 31, 2025.
To facilitate the transition, NABH will offer training sessions, workshops, and other support resources.
Dr Kochhar encouraged healthcare providers to engage with the new standards, stating, "We encourage all healthcare providers to familiarize themselves with the new requirements and take advantage of the resources NABH will provide to ensure they meet the expectations of the 6th edition."
