The MUHCS will be aligned with the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), offering similar benefits such as coverage for pre-existing conditions and hospitalization expenses.

The Mizoram government is set to introduce a new healthcare initiative, the Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme (MUHCS), which will provide an annual health cover of INR 5 lakh per family.

The scheme, which aims to improve healthcare access for all residents, will cover families from diverse economic backgrounds, including government employees.

Health Minister Lalrinpuii announced the scheme on Sunday, stating that the official launch will take place soon. She also mentioned that discussions regarding the launch are expected with Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday.

The MUHCS will be aligned with the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), offering similar benefits such as coverage for pre-existing conditions and hospitalization expenses.

The scheme will provide cashless treatment at state-run hospitals, primary healthcare centers, and impanelled private or church-run hospitals.

Many private and church-run hospitals in Mizoram’s southern region have shown interest in implementing the scheme. However, negotiations with private hospitals in the state capital, Aizawl, are still underway.

Registration Plans

Registration for the scheme began in March and will continue until May. Currently, offline registration is being managed by officials at sub-health centers, while online registration will commence in April.

After the May deadline, registration will reopen in July with a penalty for late applicants.

MUHCS will offer beneficiaries three contribution-based plans. The general plan will cover treatment in general wards, while the standard plan will provide access to semi-private wards.

The private plan will allow treatment in private wards. Contribution amounts will vary based on the chosen plan.

Through this scheme, the Mizoram government aims to enhance healthcare access and affordability, ensuring comprehensive medical coverage for residents across the state.
