The company plans to expand to 1,000 towns over the next 12 to 18 months, particularly focusing on areas with limited access to quality healthcare diagnostics.

In an effort to broaden access to diagnostic services in remote areas, Metropolis Healthcare has announced its plans to set up 25 new laboratories and 500 collection centers in Tier III cities across North and East India.

This strategic move aims to improve healthcare access in underserved regions.

According to Ameera Shah, Promoter and Executive Chairperson at Metropolis Healthcare, the expansion is part of the company's broader growth strategy.

"We have expanded our footprint in Tier II and III cities, increasing our presence from 300 towns in FY23 to over 650 by Q1FY25. Revenue from Tier III cities has increased by 18% year-on-year, accounting for more than 23% of our total revenue. We want to continue this momentum," Shah said.

Focus on Expanding Diagnostic Services

With 204 laboratories and 4,216 service centers already operating across India and abroad, Metropolis aims to penetrate smaller towns further.

The company plans to extend its reach to 1,000 towns over the next 12 to 18 months, particularly focusing on areas with limited access to quality healthcare diagnostics.

Shah explained, "This geographical expansion will enhance our accessibility and allow us to tap into growth potential."

The diagnostics chain also aims to increase its focus on preventive healthcare services and grow its wellness segment.

Currently, wellness accounts for 16% of the company’s overall business, but Metropolis is looking to raise that figure to between 20% and 25%.

Additionally, the company aims to boost its B2C (business-to-consumer) offerings from 56% to 60-65% in the coming months.

Revenue Growth & Expansion Plans

In the last financial year, Metropolis Healthcare reported a revenue of INR 1,190 Cr, marking a 3.6% year-on-year growth. Shah attributed this success to strategic product enhancements and increased patient volumes.

"Our digital revenue now accounts for 20% of our total revenue, showing our shift to digital healthcare solutions," she added.

The company’s wellness segment continues to grow strongly, driven by the rising demand for preventive healthcare services.

"We introduced 102 new tests in FY24, including AI-verified prostate biopsy tests and an expanded suite of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) tests," Shah said.

These tests have positioned Metropolis as a leader in specialized diagnostics, catering to the growing market demand for advanced healthcare services.

Metropolis has also diversified its services, branching into basic radiology, now available at 250 centers. Shah stated that the company’s integration of radiology services is part of its efforts to provide comprehensive diagnostic solutions under one roof.

"This model integrates radiology into our existing network, enhancing customer value and ensuring operational efficiency," she noted.

The company’s planned expansion into remote areas and its increasing focus on digital solutions and preventive healthcare reflects its strategy to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving healthcare industry.

Shah said, "We are committed to providing accessible, quality healthcare to more people, and these new labs and centers will help us achieve that goal."
