The company plans to leverage this new lab to offer enhanced diagnostic capabilities, setting a new standard for healthcare services in Kenya and beyond.
Metropolis Star Lab Kenya Limited, a subsidiary of the Indian diagnostics company Metropolis Healthcare Limited, has officially opened its new Regional Reference Laboratory in Nairobi.
Located on the third floor of Pramukh Tower on Westlands Road in Nairobi, this facility marks the company's further expansion of its presence in Kenya, where it has been operating for over a decade.
The state-of-the-art facility, spanning over 6,000 square feet, is designed to handle the processing of approximately 35,000 to 40,000 diagnostic work samples per month.
It offers an extensive range of services, including hematology, microbiology, molecular biology, special chemistry, immunology, histology, and cytology.
The inauguration event, held on Monday, saw attendance from a number of dignitaries. Mary Muthoni, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Public Health & Professional Standards, officially inaugurated the new laboratory.
Other notable attendees included Rohit Vadhwana, the deputy high commissioner at the High Commission of India; Dr Walter Ongeti, CEO of KENAS; Patricia Aruwa, deputy director of Industries, Business Environment, and Private Sector Development at the State Department for Industrialization; Florence Wangui and Becky Kim, board members of the Kenya Investment Authority.
Senior executives from Metropolis, including Avadhut Joshi, chief business development officer, and Iqbal Ahmed, AVP of business and operations (East Africa), were also present to celebrate the launch.
Surendran Chemmenkotil, CEO of Metropolis Healthcare Limited, emphasized the significance of the new laboratory as part of the company's broader strategy to extend its high-quality diagnostic services beyond India into international markets, including Kenya.
"Metropolis has strategically strengthened its presence in Kenya over the years by setting up 21 centres across the country. Now, with the launch of our new and largest regional reference lab, we look forward to taking the baton from our existing branches and sharing the responsibility of providing world class diagnostic testing services to the citizens of Kenya," Chemmenkotil stated.
Metropolis has been strategically reinforcing its presence in the region. The company plans to leverage this new lab to offer enhanced diagnostic capabilities, setting a new standard for healthcare services in Kenya and beyond.
The facility is well-positioned to serve Kenya and other East African countries where Metropolis has established a firm foothold, including Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Ghana. The company's network of partnerships across the continent underscores Africa's importance to Metropolis' global strategy.
In another development, in November last year, Metropolis Healthcare introduced the Next Best Action (NBA) initiative, a patient education program to tackle the rising prevalence of chronic diseases. The NBA initiative aims to empower patients to take charge of their health and prevent severe complications associated with chronic conditions.
By leveraging the results of basic blood parameters, NBA recommends follow-up tests based on the latest research and guidelines tailored to each patient, providing a comprehensive assessment of various body systems.
