Metropolis Histoxpert Digital Services (MHDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Metropolis Healthcare, has signed a business transfer agreement to acquire Dehradun-based Dr. Ahuja’s Pathology & Imaging Centre in an all-cash deal worth INR 35.01 crore.
The acquisition aims to expand Metropolis’s presence in North India’s diagnostic market.
The acquired diagnostic chain includes two NABL- and NABH-accredited laboratories, 11 patient service centers, and nine hospital-based diagnostic units. According to company estimates, Dr. Ahuja’s Pathology & Imaging Centre generated an unaudited annual revenue of INR 11.5 crore in FY 2024–25, with 73% derived from pathology services and the remaining 27% from radiology.
This deal marks Metropolis’s second regional acquisition within a month, following the purchase of Agra-based Scientific Pathology, part of its strategy to increase market share in western Uttar Pradesh.
Commenting on the development, Ameera Shah, Promoter and Executive Chairperson, Metropolis Healthcare, said, “We are further strengthening our ‘String of Pearls’ strategy, which aims to build a robust and regionally diverse diagnostic network across North India. These strategic moves have expanded North India's contribution to our overall revenues from 8% to an estimated 14–15%.”
Uttarakhand has emerged as a key target region for diagnostic providers due to its rapid growth in healthcare demand. The state’s diagnostic market is currently valued at approximately INR 500 crores, presenting significant opportunities for expanding pathology and imaging services.
Surendran Chemmenkotil, CEO, Metropolis Healthcare, said, “Uttarakhand is one of the fastest-growing diagnostic markets in North India, valued at approximately INR 500 crore. This integration will enhance our B2B and B2C reach with a comprehensive test portfolio, including specialized diagnostics.”
The acquisition reflects a broader consolidation trend in the diagnostic sector as players seek to scale operations and streamline services across regions.
