Merck Life Science Partners with GeNext Genomics to Boost India's Biotech Ecosystem

The collaboration is expected to support the growth of India’s biotechnology ecosystem by fostering innovation and improving access to cutting-edge technologies.

Merck Life Science in India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GeNext Genomics, a rising biotech firm, to combine local expertise with global biomanufacturing capabilities.

The MoU was formalized by Aditya Sharma, Head of Process Solutions, India Region, Merck Life Science; Dr Ashwin Kashikar, Managing Director, GeNext Genomics; Supriya Kashikar, Founder and CEO, GeNext Genomics; and Ravi Kashikar, Chairman and Founder of Ankur Seeds.

This partnership will enable GeNext Genomics to leverage Merck’s advanced biomanufacturing expertise to provide comprehensive solutions.

The collaboration is expected to support the growth of India’s biotechnology ecosystem by fostering innovation and improving access to cutting-edge technologies.

By combining global expertise with local insights, this strategic alliance underscores Merck’s commitment to strengthening India’s biotech industry and positioning it for global competitiveness.

Merck Life Science was incorporated in 1986 as a joint venture with Millipore Corporation, USA, and became a 100% subsidiary of Millipore Corporation in 2009.

Millipore then was acquired by Merck Chemicals in 2010. Merck Life Sciences offers researchers advanced tools, services, and expertise worldwide. According to the drugmaker, they offer one of the broadest portfolios in the industry for scientists, and their innovations touch individuals globally.

Earlier, Merck acquired Caraway Therapeutics, through a definitive agreement valued at around $620 million. This move aims at strengthening Merck's portfolio in the neurodegenerative disease space. The deal includes an undisclosed upfront payment and contingent milestone payments.
