The device is part of the Percept™ family and is designed for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) therapy. This innovation aims to enhance the treatment of conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and epilepsy.
Medtronic, a global leader in healthcare technology, has introduced its Percept RC neurostimulator in India, following FDA approval.
The device is part of the Percept™ family and is designed for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) therapy. This innovation aims to enhance the treatment of conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and epilepsy.
Equipped with advanced sensing capabilities, the device uses BrainSense™ technology to record brain activity. This data aids clinicians in tailoring therapy based on each patient's evolving needs. The Percept RC neurostimulator also features a rechargeable battery with a lifespan exceeding 15 years and a fast-charging capability that recharges from 10% to 90% in less than an hour.
Prateek Tiwari, Senior Director of Neuroscience and Specialty Therapies at Medtronic India, commented, “This cutting-edge solution aligns with the increasing demand for advanced healthcare innovations and promises a transformative impact on the treatment of complex neurological disorders. With its ability to deliver highly personalized, data-driven therapy, the technology has the potential to significantly improve patient outcomes and offer a new hope for those managing the challenges of chronic neurological conditions."
Deep Brain Stimulation involves the implantation of a device that delivers electrical signals to targeted brain regions. The Percept RC neurostimulator stands out as the smallest and thinnest dual-channel neurostimulator available for DBS therapy, offering significant patient comfort and adaptability.
Medtronic has designed the Percept RC to meet the essential imaging needs of DBS patients. An estimated 70% of DBS-eligible individuals require MRI scans as part of their care. The device supports 1.5T and 3T MRI scans and is compatible with full-body imaging under specific conditions. It is the only DBS system enabling stimulation in bipolar mode during MRI procedures, adding flexibility for patients requiring regular imaging.
The Percept RC neurostimulator’s compatibility with future software updates underscores its adaptability. This feature allows upgrades to the Percept™ platform without requiring a hardware replacement, ensuring patients benefit from advancements in DBS therapy over time.
Medtronic’s introduction of this device in India reflects its focus on addressing complex neurological conditions with precision-based solutions. By integrating innovative technologies, the Percept RC seeks to improve the quality of life for individuals managing chronic neurological disorders.
