With this acquisition, healthcare giant Medanta Hospital is set to bring its new facility with advanced technologies and medical services to Mumbai.

Medanta Hospital's operator, Global Health, has acquired a 2.2-acre plot in Oshiwara, Mumbai, for INR 125 Cr through an e-auction conducted by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).

The group offered INR 125 Cr, significantly higher than the base price of INR 67.49 Cr, outbidding Jupiter Hospital's INR 76 Cr bid. This plot is designated for the construction of a new hospital facility.

With this acquisition, healthcare giant Medanta Hospital is set to bring its new facility with advanced technologies and medical services to Mumbai.

"Medanta Hospital is one of the premier hospitals in India, renowned for providing world-class comprehensive and affordable healthcare services. Through MHADA, the services of Medanta Hospital will soon be available to Mumbaikars," MHADA said in a statement.

Other Major Buys

MHADA's e-auction also saw the sale of four plots reserved for educational institutions. Pragat Shikshan Sanstha emerged as the highest bidder for a half-acre plot in Malwani MHADA layout, Malad, offering INR 11 Cr.

Another half-acre plot in Tagore Nagar MHADA layout, Vikhroli, received a top bid of INR 12 Cr.

Radhikabai Meghe Women’s Education Institute secured a 0.8-acre plot in the same layout with a bid of INR 26 Cr, while a 0.74-acre plot at Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli, was acquired by Navchetna Charitable Trust for INR 18 Cr.

The Andheri-Dahisar belt, with limited large hospitals and a low hospital bed-to-population ratio, is expected to benefit from Medanta Hospital's entry.

High real estate costs have previously hindered hospital chains from establishing facilities in this area.

“Now, through MHADA, Medanta Hospital’s services will soon be available to Mumbaikars,” a MHADA official commented.

Founded by Dr Naresh Trehan, the Medanta Group is a leading private multi-specialty tertiary care provider operating in the North and East regions of India. The operational hospitals, including Jay Prabha Medanta Hospital in Patna, provide healthcare services in over 30 medical specialties.

In February this year, Medanta launched the Varian Edge Radiation Machine along with the comprehensive cancer care program at its Patna division.

In another development, Medanta Hospital introduced the Penumbra Lightning 12 F Catheter, an AI-driven device transforming selective clot removal in endovascular procedures. Medanta claims to be the first hospital in India to adopt this technology.
