Mayo Clinic has named Micky Tripathi as its new Chief AI Implementation Officer. In this key role, Tripathi will oversee the adoption and integration of artificial intelligence technologies across the institution's vast healthcare network.
The appointment was confirmed by Mayo Clinic on Thursday, and Tripathi is expected to assume his position next month. His hiring was first reported by Politico.
Tripathi most recently served as Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy and National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In this capacity, he also acted as the department's Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer.
During his tenure, he led national efforts to establish governance frameworks for AI deployment in both federal health agencies and the private sector.
With more than 20 years of experience in health information technology, Tripathi has been a driving force in advancing interoperability and digital health standards.
Before his role at HHS, he was Chief Alliance Officer at Arcadia, a healthcare analytics firm focused on population health. He also served as President and CEO of the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative, a nonprofit dedicated to health IT advancement.
Tripathi's leadership has extended to key national organizations, including HL7, the Sequoia Project, and the CommonWell Health Alliance. He is also a former Fellow at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University.
Academically, Tripathi holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from MIT, a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University, and an A.B. from Vassar College.
His appointment underscores Mayo Clinic's commitment to integrating AI technologies to improve healthcare delivery, guided by firm policy and ethical standards.
