This move aligns with the government's focus on attracting investments in the healthcare sector and promoting economic activity while offering quality healthcare to the people.

Indian eyecare chain, Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu Government. Under the proposed MoU, Maxivision would invest INR 400 Cr to set up 100 eye care centres in the state of Tamil Nadu.

The MoU, signed in the presence of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, MK Stalin, is said to set up eyecare centres in Tier II and III cities generating 2,000 jobs in the state.

This move aligns with the government's focus on attracting investments in the healthcare sector and promoting economic activity while offering quality healthcare to the people.

Sharing his views,  TR B Rajaa, Minister for Industries, Tamil Nadu, said, "Investments in the healthcare sector in Tamil Nadu not only create jobs and economic activity but also enable access to quality healthcare for our people."

"We are working on more inputs received via the Pharma and MedTech Round Table held with the Ministry of Industries and industry stakeholders in Chennai a few days back," he added.

Founded in 1996, Maxivision Eye Hospital has super-speciality eye hospitals in Telangana, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

The signing of a memorandum of understanding is in line with the DMK government's plans to host its first-ever Global Investors Meet in Chennai in January 2024.

In another development, the Tamil Nadu government launched a design hackathon to invite entrepreneurs and innovators to create a mobile outreach and therapy unit for persons with disabilities. The initiative aims to improve the coverage and accessibility of care and support services for the differently-abled population in the state.

Further, in another such related event, Japan's prominent medical equipment manufacturer, Omron Healthcare, is said to establish its first medical device factory in India in Tamil Nadu. Reportedly, the Japanese company is planning to invest about $15.7 million in this initiative. Further, the company has also partnered with the Tamil Nadu government, which has signed agreements with six other Japanese manufacturers to attract more investments in the region.
