This partnership, part of Marengo’s Clinical Corridor Initiative, focuses on advancing healthcare standards and expanding access to tertiary care services across East Africa.
Marengo Asia Hospitals has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kenya-based Metropolitan Hospitals and Zoscales Partners to establish a Center of Excellence (CoE) at Metropolitan Hospital in Nairobi.
This partnership, part of Marengo’s Clinical Corridor Initiative, focuses on advancing healthcare standards and expanding access to tertiary care services across East Africa.
The collaboration aims to address the region’s growing demand for specialized healthcare, focusing on improving affordability and accessibility for underserved communities.
It will leverage the clinical expertise of Marengo Asia Hospitals to empower Metropolitan Hospitals to become a regional hub for high-quality medical services.
Strategic Expansion of Healthcare in East Africa
This partnership will involve establishing Centers of Excellence for selected medical specialties at Metropolitan Hospitals, ensuring that the latest advancements in healthcare are available to the East African population.
“By upgrading our clinical services and expanding access to advanced healthcare, we are not only improving the quality of care but also making it more affordable and accessible to a broader population,” said Dr KK Gakombe, Founder and CEO of Metropolitan Hospitals Limited.
The initiative follows Marengo Asia Hospitals'aim to creating "clinical corridors" across geographies. These corridors are based on teaching, training, and treating principles to elevate healthcare standards globally.
"Our holistic approach in developing Centres of Excellence includes team planning, infrastructure, compliance, development of protocols, and training for all department stakeholders,” explained Dr Raajiv Singhal, Founding Member, Managing Director, and CEO of Marengo Asia Hospitals.
Focus on Clinical Excellence
Marengo Asia Hospitals plans to support the development of clinical pathways and compliance protocols, which will be essential to ensuring that Metropolitan Hospitals delivers top-tier care.
Dr Singhal added that these efforts would help Metropolitan become a leading institution in tertiary care across East Africa.
Zoscales Partners, a key investor in the initiative, expressed its support for the project. “By combining Marengo Asia Hospitals’ world-class expertise with Metropolitan Hospitals’ local strength, we are building a transformative platform that will boost clinical capacity and expand sustainable healthcare access for communities across East Africa,” said Jacop B Rentschler, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Zoscales Partners.
Further, Marengo Asia Hospitals’ involvement will help ensure that the healthcare infrastructure in Nairobi and surrounding areas can meet the increasing demand for specialized treatment options.
Empowering Local Healthcare Providers
The MoU focuses on delivering clinical excellence and training and empowering local healthcare professionals.
As part of the collaboration, the involved parties aim to create an environment where local providers can learn from Marengo Asia Hospitals’ extensive experience. This is expected to result in better patient outcomes and an overall upliftment of healthcare standards in the region.
Dr Gakombe emphasized that the focus will remain on long-term sustainability and accessibility and said, “Our goal is to ensure that advanced medical services are available to all segments of the population, regardless of their financial standing.”
