With implementation support from Deloitte, Manipal Hospitals is already leveraging Google Cloud's capabilities to modernize its digital infrastructure.

Manipal Hospitals, one of India's leading healthcare providers, has partnered strategically with Google Cloud to advance AI-driven digital healthcare.

The partnership aims to enhance operational efficiency across the patient care continuum by integrating cutting-edge artificial intelligence, advanced data analytics, and secure cloud infrastructure.

With implementation support from Deloitte, Manipal Hospitals is already leveraging Google Cloud's capabilities to modernize its digital infrastructure.

The collaboration has significantly improved key operational areas, notably by developing an AI-powered ePharmacy platform and a generative AI-enabled nurse handoff solution.

Transforming ePharmacy Services with AI

Manipal Hospitals' ePharmacy platform, built entirely on Google Cloud, aims to set new benchmarks in prescription management and medication delivery.

Using artificial intelligence and automation, the hospital has successfully reduced ePharmacy order processing times from 15 minutes to under 5 minutes.

This acceleration in processing enables faster prescription fulfillment, improving patient access to medications while also reducing administrative burdens on healthcare staff.

The AI system employed by the platform is powered by Google's Gemini on Vertex AI, which facilitates accurate drug information management and streamlines prescription workflows.

This automation replaces previously manual tasks and significantly lowers the risk of transcription errors.

In addition, the Cloud Healthcare API and Apigee API Management ensure seamless data integration across departments, delivering real-time information to patients immediately after consultations.

More than 100,000 patients currently rely on the ePharmacy platform for short—and long-term medication needs, so the system processes over 60,000 data entries daily.

This vast data pool enables doctors to glean important insights into medication trends and patient behavior, fostering improved collaboration with pharmacists and better-informed clinical decision-making.

To ensure uninterrupted service during peak prescription periods, the Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) supports the platform, which guarantees scalability and high reliability.

Advanced analytics via Looker also allow the hospital to monitor user behavior, track delivery workflows, and optimize user experience.

AI-Powered Nurse Handoff Enhancing Patient Care

The partnership has also enabled Manipal Hospitals to deploy a generative AI-powered nurse handoff solution, significantly reducing transition times during shift changes.

Previously taking up to 90 minutes, nurse handoffs now take just 20 minutes—an impressive 78% reduction. This improvement translates into millions of minutes saved monthly, which can now be redirected toward patient care.

The solution, built on Google Cloud's unified data architecture, ensures that nurses have immediate access to comprehensive patient data during shift transitions.

Real-time data sharing enhances communication between caregivers and minimizes disruptions in care continuity. By automating the workflow, the platform reduces the risk of human error and improves clinical outcomes and overall patient experience.

This streamlined communication system ultimately supports better care delivery and increases patient satisfaction rates, aligning with Manipal Hospitals' commitment to excellence in patient-centered healthcare.

Karthik Rajagopal, Group Chief Operating Officer at Manipal Hospitals, highlighted the collaboration's benefits, stating that Google Cloud's scalable and secure infrastructure has enabled their teams to focus more on solving critical business problems without the need to manage complex IT systems.

Bikram Singh Bedi, Vice President and Country Managing Director at Google Cloud India, emphasized the partnership's transformative potential.

He said that Google Cloud is deeply committed to equipping healthcare providers with secure, scalable AI solutions that enhance healthcare accessibility and efficiency.

He added that this collaboration aims to resolve systemic inefficiencies and elevate patient experiences, ultimately benefiting practitioners and patients across India.
