Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya has inaugurated INR 1,140 Cr health facilities at four central government hospitals in the capital city, Delhi.

These new facilities are specifically designed to cater to various medical needs, including accident & emergency services, disaster management, surgeries, intensive care, dialysis, and various specialties.

Moreover, this initiative is part of a comprehensive development plan for these four institutes, providing round-the-clock medical care, including different diagnostic tests and procedures, under one roof.

Newly Launched Facilities

1. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Research & Dr RML Hospital: A doctors’ hostel was inaugurated. The hostel has 824 rooms in three wings for resident doctors and students. It also includes a gymnasium, recreational hall, and a canteen. The 20-floor building was constructed at a cost of INR 196 Cr and has been operational since last year.

2. Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC): An 864-bed emergency block was inaugurated at Sucheta Kriplani Hospital. The multi-disciplinary facility became functional on July 24, 2023. The block has 94 beds for the accident & emergency department, 30 disaster beds, 15 operation theatres, two minor OTs, 54 ICU beds, 20 dialysis beds, and 600 beds for different specialties.

3. Safdarjung Hospital: A sports injury centre was inaugurated.

4. Rajkumari Amrit Kaur Nursing College: A hostel and academic blocks were inaugurated.

These new facilities are part of the government’s efforts to foster equality in healthcare services, striving to make them affordable and accessible.

Beefing Up Hospital Infrastructure

Dr Mandaviya commemorated the initiatives undertaken and applauded the reach of healthcare services to the remote areas of the nation. He stated “The government is constantly working to foster equality in healthcare services, striving to make them affordable and accessible through initiatives like Ayushman Bharat.”

According to him, the number of medical colleges has more than doubled in the last nine years. Similarly, the number of MBBS, PG and Nursing seats has increased at an unprecedented rate in a span of less than 10 years.

Sharing thoughts, Dr Ajay Shukla, director & medical superintendent, RML Hospital, said, ‘’The hostel had 824 rooms in three wings for resident doctors and students. It has a gymnasium, recreational hall and a canteen.’’ He further added that the 20-floor building was constructed at a cost of INR 196 Cr and had been operational since last year.

Recent Healthcare Facility Launches

In a similar development, days back, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated five new facilities at the ICMR National Institute of Malaria Research (ICMR-NIMR). The institute features an advanced BSL3 laboratory that addresses infectious pathogens of public health significance.

This initiative seeks to strengthen ICMR–NIMR’s biomedical infrastructure, incorporating advanced medical equipment and facilities designed to accommodate the latest breakthroughs in medical science. Moreover, these enhancements will contribute to improved patient outcomes and a more efficient healthcare delivery system.

In October last year, the Union Health Minister laid the foundation stone and inaugurated a few health infrastructure projects in Assam under the Pradhan Mantri-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), National Health Mission (NHM) and XV Finance Commission Health Grants.

Reportedly, the infrastructure project in Assam is worth INR 121.51 Cr. This initiative aims to strengthen the state's healthcare system, and offer advanced technology to keep up with the needs of the time.
