The proposed 250-300 bed facility will focus on critical specialties such as oncology and cardiology, catering to the Northeast region and neighboring countries like Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Mumbai-based Lilavati Foundation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Assam government to establish a super-specialty hospital in Guwahati.

The proposed 250-300 bed facility, with an investment of INR 300-350 Cr, will focus on critical specialties such as oncology and cardiology, catering to the Northeast region and neighboring countries like Bhutan and Bangladesh.

According to Prashant Mehta, founder and chairperson of Lilavati Foundation, the Assam government has allocated three acres of land for the hospital on a long-term lease. “The funds for this project will be raised through a mix of debt, equity, and donations,” Mehta told PTI.

The facility is expected to be completed within two to three years, aiming to bridge the gap in specialized healthcare services in the region.

He further emphasized the need for such a facility in Assam, stating, “This project is a testament to our dedication to expanding access to quality healthcare. Assam’s strategic location and the strong support from the state government make it an ideal hub for medical tourism and specialized medical services.”

Expansion Plans Across India

Beyond the Guwahati project, Lilavati Foundation is also in discussions with multiple state governments to expand its hospital network. The organization is actively exploring locations in Goa, Delhi, Jaipur, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru to set up similar multi-specialty hospitals and medical colleges.

“We are in the advanced stage of talks with Goa, Delhi, Rajasthan (Jaipur), Telangana (Hyderabad), and Karnataka (Bengaluru). We seek suitable land parcels in these states to set up similar facilities. In five years, we are looking at setting up hospitals with 3,000 beds across most metros,” Mehta said.

The foundation currently operates Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai’s Bandra and aims to enhance access to advanced healthcare facilities nationwide.
