The smart glasses utilize machine learning algorithms to identify faces, recognize objects, and offer navigation assistance.
The KIMS Foundation and Research Center (KFRC) in Hyderabad has launched AI-based smart glasses designed to assist the visually impaired.
Developed under the leadership of former DRDO scientist Dr V Bhujanga Rao, the project was completed in collaboration with Achala Health Services, founded by Rajesh Raju.
The smart glasses utilize machine learning algorithms to identify faces, recognize objects, and offer navigation assistance.
Moreover, these devices were distributed to patients at KIMS Hospital during a recent event, where Governor Jishu Dev Varma praised their transformative potential.
Governor Varma stated, “India is home to over 20 million visually impaired people, making these smart glasses a crucial resource for them. These devices not only support daily activities but also boost users’ self-confidence.”
He commended the scientists, technology experts, and supporting organizations for their dedication to improving lives through this innovation.
Dr Rao emphasized the distribution plan, stating, “The glasses will be distributed to those in need through non-profits, government agencies, and healthcare providers, along with training on their use.”
In a similar development, KIMS Hospitals recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Intuitive, a US-based biotechnology company, to launch 25 robotic-assisted surgery systems across India.
These systems, featuring Da Vinci robotic technology, will be deployed in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala, with a particular focus on Tier II and Tier III cities.
The robotic-assisted surgery systems will be installed in locations including Secunderabad, Begumpet, Kondapur, Gachibowli, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Rajahmundry, Ongole, Kurnool, Nellore, Anantapur, Nagpur, Nashik, Thane, Bengaluru, and Kannur in Kerala.
