The initiative aims to streamline payment processes, offering increased convenience to patients and families.
Patients at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, can now pay their medical bills online with the launch of a comprehensive digital payment system. The initiative aims to streamline payment processes, offering increased convenience to patients and families.
KGMU, a 4,000-bed facility, caters to a daily influx of 7,000–8,000 outpatients, often exceeding its capacity. Previously, patients were required to pay in cash for consultations, surgeries, and admissions, which often led to delays. Though limited online payment options were available at some counters, the overall process remained time-consuming.
To address these challenges, the administration has introduced a robust digital payment system. Now, patients can make payments through QR codes, point-of-sale (POS) machines, and UPI-based transactions. The shift to digital payments is expected to reduce wait times and simplify the payment process significantly.
The KGMU administration, in collaboration with its IT cell and finance office, has installed 35 POS machines across the campus. Patients can now choose from multiple payment methods for their medical services. Informative posters have also been placed at cash counters to guide patients on payment modes and address concerns.
KGMU spokesperson Prof Sudhir Singh shared details about the development, stating, “Thirty-five POS machines have been installed on the campus with the support of the IT cell and finance office. Patients can avail of the service for treatment. KGMU has placed informative posters at cash counters to promote digital transactions further, detailing accepted payment methods and troubleshooting tips.”
The move aligns with the growing trend of digitalization in healthcare services, ensuring that patients have access to quicker and more flexible payment options.
