Kerala Launches Digital Payment & OP Booking Systems in Govt Hospitals

In the initial phase, 313 hospitals have been equipped with digital payment infrastructure. This system allows patients to pay for services using credit cards, debit cards, and UPI platforms such as Google Pay and PhonePe.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George has announced the rollout of digital payment systems in government hospitals across the state. The system aims to simplify the fee payment process for patients accessing various medical services.

In the initial phase, 313 hospitals have been equipped with digital payment infrastructure. This system enables patients to pay for services using credit cards, debit cards, and UPI platforms, including Google Pay and PhonePe.

According to an official release from the Minister’s office, the Health Department plans to expand this facility to the remaining government hospitals within the next month.

The implementation has been carried out in collaboration with the Information Kerala Mission, which functions under the Department of Local Self-Government.

Point of Sale (POS) devices for the hospitals were procured through the State Bank of India and Canara Bank, facilitating seamless payment integration.

New Digital Tools for OP Ticket Booking & Health Access

The state government has also launched an online platform to book outpatient (OP) tickets for doctor consultations at hospitals providing modern medicine services.

In the first phase, this facility was made available in 687 hospitals covered under the e-Health scheme and around 80 additional health centers, including taluk hospitals and medical colleges.

The online booking platform can be accessed through smartphones, personal computers, and Akshaya centers, improving access to healthcare services, especially in remote areas.

Introduction of M-Health App

The new M-Health mobile application offers patients access to their medical records, including prescriptions and lab reports.

Users can log in using their Unique Health Identity (UHID) or registered mobile number. The app, currently available on Android devices, also allows users to book OP tickets in advance.

The Health Department has introduced the “Scan and Book” feature to reduce waiting times further.

Patients arriving at hospitals without prior bookings can scan a QR code displayed at the hospital premises using their smartphones and instantly receive an OP ticket, eliminating the need to stand in queues.

Minister Veena George will officially inaugurate these services on April 7, coinciding with World Health Day.
