Its six-joint robotic arm, tracking camera, and built-in safety features allow for real-time adjustments, optimizing joint stability and natural movement.

Kapadia Hospital has taken a significant step in advancing orthopedic care by installing MISSO, a robotic system designed in India for knee replacement surgeries.

As the first hospital in Mumbai to implement this technology, MISSO integrates AI-driven precision with surgical expertise, enabling faster recovery and greater accessibility to high-quality healthcare.

Developed and manufactured in India, MISSO leverages advanced computing and real-time data analysis to map surgeries in 3D, ensuring precise cuts and implant placement.

Its six-joint robotic arm, tracking camera, and built-in safety features allow for real-time adjustments, optimizing joint stability and natural movement.

By adopting a minimally invasive approach, MISSO significantly reduces tissue damage, bleeding, and recovery time, helping patients regain mobility more quickly.

Dr Rajan Modi, founder, owner & consultant laparoscopic surgeon at Kapadia Hospital, said, “MISSO’s versatility sets it apart, enabling us to perform a wide range of orthopedic procedures with exceptional precision. Unlike conventional robotic systems, it streamlines surgical workflows and optimizes hospital resources by eliminating the need for multiple platforms. With the introduction of daycare knee replacement surgeries, we can now offer faster recovery, greater efficiency, and improved accessibility, redefining patient care standards."

As part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, MISSO highlights India's progress in medical technology, bringing world-class robotic surgery to more patients.

Dr Rahul Modi, a robotic knee and shoulder surgeon at Kapadia Hospital, said, “MISSO redefines orthopedic surgery in India by combining cutting-edge AI with surgical expertise. As an indigenous robotic system, it enhances precision, minimizes recovery time, and improves surgical outcomes, allowing patients to regain mobility faster and with greater comfort. This breakthrough in medical technology raises the standard of patient care, making advanced orthopedic treatment more effective and accessible.”

Launched by Piyush Goyal, the Minister of Industry and Supply of India, MISSO sets a new benchmark in robotic joint replacements, gaining recognition for its efficiency and innovation.

Kapadia Multispeciality Hospital, located in Goregaon, Mumbai, is a NABH-accredited healthcare facility providing comprehensive medical and surgical services. With over thirty years of expertise, the hospital is equipped with advanced technology and offers specialized care in diagnostics, trauma management, and complex surgical procedures.

Recently, Kerala also made a similar development in cancer treatment by introducing a robotic surgery unit at the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) Thiruvananthapuram and the Malabar Cancer Centre (MCC) Thalassery.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George announced the development, highlighting that this marks the first time such advanced facilities have been introduced in the government healthcare sector. The advancements are part of the Nava Kerala Action Plan-2 Aardram Mission, which focuses on ten key healthcare objectives, including cancer control and prevention.
